Interview with Valentin Yudashkin

Valentin Yudashkin is Russia’s most famous fashion designer. He's also nominated "National artist of Russia" and he's a member of the Academy of Arts of the Russian Federation. His first collection was created in 1987 and since 1988 he has created the "Valentin Yudashkin House of fashion". Since 2003 he's a member of Camera Nazionale della moda italiana. He also works in Milan, Paris, New York, the most important center of fashion in the world. Some of his clothes are exposed in many important museums (Louvre Museum of Clothes in Paris, the California Museum of Fashion in Los Angeles, the Metropolitan Museum in New York, the State Historical Museum in Moscow).

Valentin Yudashkin introduced his collection in Italy, and he preserved the traditional Russian needlework. What is the particular feeling between Italy and Russia, also considering the presence of Venetian artists’ modeling in the court of Russian Czar’s in their marvelous residence?

First of all love of magnificence, love to “Luxury”, love to expensive goods. That is what joins together Italian and Russian women. Love to national values, to ethnical roots of authenticity, originality and probably otherness. That is why Italian and Russian women are very similar.

The Yudashkin autumn-winter collection focuses on the rigorous Neo-Gothic mixed with a delicate sensuality, combining a linearity structure of 60th and the elegance of 90th. What horizons see Valentin Yudashkin for his creativity and for his company in this new millennium?

Difficult Question, but first of all we already live in the new open society and new space that is why my new visuality is development of the market, presentation of active and reach Russia, and opening showrooms and boutiques all over the world.

Finanza Straordinaria, the site for which I work as editor, devotes a section to Maecenas, nowadays presenting an initiative to find new artist of contemporary art. You are an example of a man of success that has made a major effort in promoting initiatives Maecenas and Culture: Russian Fashion Week, Academy of fashion, the next implementation of the museum of costume, the exhibition”Noise: in the whole silence”. Which projects of Maecenas do you believe should be more sponsored by investors?

The Art! It unite us, it contemplate. Also International Exhibitions, Benefit evenings are taking a very active place in our society. It will be interesting.
